Academic and Professional Background

 

I hold a Master's of Health Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Toronto and an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Linguistics from the University of Western Ontario. Prior to returning to school to pursue my doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology I practiced for 5 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist at Toronto’s SickKids Hospital on the neuro-oncology, neurosurgery and neuron-trauma teams. While there, I developed clinical expertise working with children with brain tumours, various neurological disorders and traumatic brain injuries. I also developed a strong interest in the relationship between the brain, and the planning and execution of speech.

 

I am currently enrolled in the doctoral program in speech-language pathology at the University of Toronto. My primary research interest relates to the study of the neural correlates of motor speech and its disorders. We are currently engaged in research projects utilizing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) to investigate neural activity associated with developmental stuttering in children and adults.
